Potential process ‘hurdles’ in the use of macroalgae as feedstock for biofuel production in the British Isles

چکیده
This review examines the potential technical and energy balance hurdles in the production of seaweed biofuel, and in particular for the MacroBioCrude processing pipeline for the sustainable manufacture of liquid hydrocarbon fuels from seaweed in the UK. The production of biofuel from seaweed is economically, energetically and technically challenging at scale. Any successful process appears to require both a method of preserving the seaweed for continuous feedstock availability and a method exploiting the entire biomass. Ensiling and gasification offer a potential solution to these two requirements. However there is need for more data particularly at a commercial scale. © 2016 The Authors. A Comparative Study of Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Canola Production
In this research, the energy flow and production energy indices of canola cultivation in Trakya province of Turkey, Golestan and Mazandaran provinces of Iran were compared. Diesel fuel and chemical fertilizer inputs were the highest consumer of energy in the production of canola in these three regions. The results indicated that despite the higher energy use of machinery in Trakya province of T...

19 Increasing biofuel production on agricultural lands in tropical island nations will likely result 20 in increased deforestation [1], and also inflate food prices, especially in net food importing 21 countries like the Philippines [2-4]. Compounding problems associated with promotion of 22 biofuels in southeast Asian countries are the technical efficiencies of bioethanol production, 23 includ...
متن کاملBiogas from Macroalgae: is it time to revisit the idea?
The economic and environmental viability of dedicated terrestrial energy crops is in doubt. The production of large scale biomass (macroalgae) for biofuels in the marine environment was first tested in the late 1960's. The culture attempts failed due to the engineering challenges of farming offshore. However the energy conversion via anaerobic digestion was successful as the biochemical composi...
متن کاملCharacterization of the lignin polymer in Brassicaceae family
Background and objectives: Residues of medicinal plants after extraction and weeds are suitable candidates for bioethanol production. Significant barriers exist to make the conversion of lignocellulosic feedstock to biofuel cost effective and environmentally friendly; one of which is the lignin polymer. Brassicaceae family is one of the potential targets for biofuel production....
متن کاملSynthesis and Optimization Process of Ethylene Glycol-Based Biolubricant from Palm Kernel Oil (PKO)
Internationally exploited lubricants are derived from coal and petroleum. Due to their high consumption and effects of their long-term pollution on the environment, it is imperative to use renewable and cheap feedstock for the synthesis of bio-based lubricants. This study presents the synthesis and optimization process of Ethylene Glycol (EG) based bio-lubricant from palm kernel oil. Palm Kerne...
